Fire - Rescue News - Five injured, two seriously, in two-vehicle collision on Route 206 in Hammonton

Five people were hurt Friday afternoon, three of them seriously, when a truck carrying farm workers pulled onto Route 206 in Hammonton into the path of an oncoming car, police said.

The truck driver, who had neither license nor insurance, tried to turn onto Route 206 from Union Road at about 1 p.m. Friday, and crossed into the path of a car with an older couple, police said.

Two farm workers were ejected from the truck, and they and one other occupant were airlifted to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, city campus, with injuries not believed to be life-threatening, police said. The older couple was taken to ARMC, mainland campus, where they were treated for injuries and released.

The names of those involved were not released, pending notification of relatives.

The driver was issued tickets for numerous traffic violations, police said.

Fire crews spent nearly four hours battling a two-alarm fire at a duplex on Sassafras Street in Millville early Wednesday morning, but there were no injuries, a fire official said.

Fire - Rescue News - CHANGE IN MULLICA TWP EMS PROVIDERS

On April 29th, the Township accepted proposals for EMS (ambulance services).  Two proposals were received, one from Hammonton Rescue Squad and one from AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center Emergency Medical Services.  Both respondents proposed providing basic life transport at no cost to the Township for five years. 

After careful consideration and review, the township committee awarded the contract to AtlantiCare at the May 25th meeting. 

The contract with AtlantiCare will begin July 1, 2010.  There will be no interruption in service, or change in procedure.  Residents should continue dialing 911 for any emergencies.
