Fire Rescue News - One person dead after Garden State Parkway accident in Galloway Township

GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - One person died in a motor vehicle accident on the Garden State Parkway Thursday morning, State Police in the Bass River Township barracks said.

The accident was reported at 10:31 a.m., according to the state-run 511nj.org. The accident happened on the Parkway southbound, north of Exit 44. The left lane is blocked for emergency vehicles. Traffic moved slowly through the area an hour later.

A single wrecked car was visible in the median to passing motorists.

Fire Rescue News - Fire damages apartment in Pleasantville

PLEASANTVILLE — A brief fire Monday night burned a rear apartment of a home for sale in the100 block of East Washington Avenue.

Fire crews and police responded to the blaze shortly after 10 p.m.

Police Sgt. Dan Harper said firefighters put out the fire quickly. He said the apartment and the building were unoccupied. No one was injured.

Fire Rescue News - Students return to Atlantic City High School after small fire prompts evacuation

ATLANTIC CITY - District school officials said Atlantic City High School students returned to the building this afternoon after they were evacuated this morning because of smoke from a small fire.

While the time of their return wasn't available, district officials said they went back to classes before being dismissed for the day at 3 p.m.

City fire officials said the smoke began when someone set fire to some paper in the high school cafeteria.

Fire Chief Dennis Brooks said one school staff member was injured, although he didn't have the staff member's name or the nature of the injury.

Police and fire units went to the scene. The Fire Department's Fire Prevention Unit also was sent to the scene.
