Lit cigarette sparks fire at Galloway apartment complex

Fire-Rescue News

GALLOWAY TWP. -

An early morning fire tore through part of a housing complex in Galloway Township.

It happened before 4:00 a.m. Thursday at The Woods at Blue Heron Pines, on the 1000 block of Bally Bunion Drive just off Tilton Road.

Fire officials arrived on the scene to find one of the units fully engulfed in flames.

All occupants were able to escape the building, although officials say one person suffered slight burns to his hands and was treated on the scene by paramedics.

Police say a lit cigarette left near a mattress sparked the fire, which quickly spread to other parts of the building.

It took firefighters more than an hour to bring the fire under control, and multiple rooms suffered extensive damage.

The Red Cross and Salvation Army are assisting all four people who were displaced after the fire
