EHT furniture store catches fire

Fire-Rescue News

Posted on The Atlantic City Press: Saturday, January 17, 2015 9:02 pm

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP — A fire inside the B H Furniture store Saturday at 6736 Black Horse Pike started near a pawn shop for buying and selling of gold, a fire official said.

Farmington Volunteer Fire Chief Leonard Tilley said the call came at 4 p.m., and the fire was out by 4:40 p.m., Tilley said. Four nightstands were burnt. There was a little damage to the interior and to the drop ceiling, Tilley said.

After smelling smoke, the store's assistant manager opened the door to the gold room and saw heavy flames, Tilley said. The assistant manager tried to put out the fire with a fire extinguisher, he said.

The assistant manager complained of chest pains. She was put into the ambulance but was later released, Tilley said.

The fire's cause is under investigation. Tilley said he hopes the store surveillance camera shows what happened.

Tilley said B H Furniture could be open today, because the fire did not affect the furniture part of the store. The store normal hours today are 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
