MULLICA TOWNSHIP -- Firefighters responded to a house fire in the Elwood section of Mullica Township.

It happened on the 4100 block of Anna Drive around 12:15 Tuesday morning.

Fire officials said that the fire started inside the wall of one room in the house, and was extinguished about 15 minutes after emergency crews arrived at the scene.

There was major interior damage to one room of the home, and firefighters said they cut a hole in the wall to gain entry into the locked house.

No one was home at the time of the blaze, and no injuries were reported.

Firefighters believe the fire was electrical, and an electric company crew was on the scene as well.

Family members who arrived after the fire was put out said they would be staying with relatives this morning.

Mullica Township police are searching for information related to a single-car crash that killed a New Gretna man early Sunday.

Capt. John Thompson said Robert Haverstock, 47, of New Gretna, was killed when his car struck a guard rail and a tree early Sunday morning on Moss Mill Road.

Haverstock's car then rolled over and he was ejected, landing in a small body of water, Thompson said.

Police responded to the scene about 2:45 a.m. Sunday, but when officers arrived, Haverstock's car was cold, indicating the crash had occurred some time before it was discovered, Thompson said. Haverstock was pronounced dead at the scene. He was the only person in the vehicle

Thompson said there currently are no witnesses and the section of road where the crash occurred was in a rural and isolated area.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to contact Cpl. Erik Karricart at 609-561-7600, ext. 123.
