Tragedy to joy: Rescue workers learn woman who reportedly drowned in Atlantic City survived

Atlantic City Firefighter Sven Peltonen spent almost 24 hours wondering what he could have done differently.

After working to try to revive a swimmer pulled unconscious from the ocean off South Carolina Avenue at about 7 p.m Monday, he was told she had died. Then, at about 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, a reporter called to tell him the 59-year-old New Hampshire woman had survived.

"She coded at the scene," Sgt. Monica McMenamin said of the drowning that turned out to be a rescue.

The woman, whose name is not being released, is in the Intensive Care Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center's City Campus. Her exact condition has....Continue Reading

IncidentsReceived a call for archiving wires. 1600A was on scene and observed one spark and nothing else. Determined that the scene was safe and secure and cleared the scene.

EVFC Incident #54 07/26/2014 at 2:07pm - 5812 Duerer St for an illegal burn

IncidentsWhile on another call for an MVA, received a call for an illegal burn. Engine 16-3 responded to the scene. Found homeowner burned a stump to get rid of ants living inside of it. Fire was out upon arrival.

AC Fire Department to receive federal assistance grant

ATLANTIC CITY -  South Jersey firefighters are receiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in federal aid.

Congressman Frank LoBiondo announced Wednesday that the Atlantic City fire department will receive more than $489,000 in a federal assistance to firefighters grant.

Atlantic City fire chief Dennis Brooks says the money will go towards state of the art protective clothing for the city's 252 firefighters.

Also receiving a grant is the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company in Middle Township which will get more than $91,000.

EVFC Incident #52 07/18/2014 at 4:52pm - 5876 Holly St in Laureldale for mutual aid for a structure fire

IncidentsTanker was requested to respond to a structure fire in Laureldale. Staged on Holly St. Per command, re-routed to a possible structure fire on Bluebird Circle in Cologne. On arrival, found Germania and Pomona already on location and determined it was a cooking incident. Command then re-routed us for a cover-up assignment at Cologne Fire House. Command cleared Elwood at 6:06pm.
