Fire Rescue News - Car fire sparks small blaze in Bass River State Forest

Fire-Rescue News

AC Press

The state Forest Fire Service is responding to Bass River State Forest for another fire near the site of last week's blaze that scorched 677 acres of pinelands, a fire official said Tuesday.

A watchman in a fire tower detected smoke Tuesday morning off Dan's Bridge Road, and four or five engines and a bulldozer responded, said Division Fire Warden Bert Plante. The firefighters found four or five acres burning in a section that was not touched by last week's blaze, and a vehicle in the middle of it.

A combination of recent rain and light winds make it unlikely this fire will spread, Plante said.

State Police are investigating whether the vehicle was stolen, Plante said.
