HAMMONTON - A young pit bull woke up its owners to warn them of a fire in their Pleasant Mills Road home early this morning, but the dog itself died in the fire, which destroyed much of the ranch house, police say.

The Elwood Fire Company responded to 200 Pleasant Mills Rd in Hammonton for a Structure Fire. First in crews found  heavy fire in the back of the structure on arrival. Engine 16-3 and Tanker 16-5 responded and crews assisted along with Nesco. All residents escaped with out injury. Unfortunately the family dog died in the fire.

Fire Rescue News - Vineland woman flips SUV on Black Horse Pike in Hamilton Township

HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - A Vineland resident was only slightly injured when she flipped her SUV Thursday afternoon on the Black Horse Pike.

Trisha L. Walk-Pratts was headed east on Route 322 near Atlantic Cape Community College at about 1:50 p.m., police said, when she lost control of her vehicle, hit the median and flipped over. The vehicle came to rest in the right eastbound lane.

The Hamilton Township Rescue Squad and Mays Landing Fire Department extracted Walk-Pratts from the vehicle, and the rescue squad drove her to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Mainland Campus.

Walk-Pratts, who police said suffered minor injuries, said she had been wearing her seatbelt during the accident.

Fire Rescue News - Fire Road closed after lightning strikes utility pole in Egg Harbor Township

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - Township fire officials closed a portion of Fire Road near the Atlantic City Electric distribution center after lightning struck a utility pole Thursday evening.

Fire crews had the contacted the utility for additional repair work around 7 p.m.

The road remains closed near the intersection of Fire and Delilah and 200 utility customers in the area were without power.
