MVA in Hammonton with Three AirliftedHAMMONTON — Police responded to a two-car accident late Saturday night, reportedly at 11th Street and South Chew Road. Police were too busy to talk at about 10:30 p.m., but a member of the local rescue squad said plans were made for a helicopter medevac operation using a nearby cemetary to land. The accident was about a half-mile from the center of town. No other details were available. EVFC Reports A motor vehicle accident was reported at 11th & Chew Rd about 9:55pm on Saturday night. Four ambulances and three helicopters were called. Ambulances were called from Hammomton, Winslow, Collings Lakes. Three Medic units were called in as well as Hammonton Fire Company to set up three landing zones at the cemetary on South Chew Rd. Check back later for more details. Matthew Byrne, 23, of Bristol Township, Pa., allegedly set ablaze a car on the 100 Block of North Monroe Avenue on July 10, then did the same thing to another car on South Madison Avenue on July 16. Both incidents were ruled arson, and a security camera at the second location led to Byrne's arrest. Police charged Byrne with two counts of arson and two counts of criminal mischief. He is in Atlantic County jail in lieu of $35,000 bail. The way Byrne set fire to the cars is still under investigation. Fire Rescue News - Marsh fire, single-car crash ties up Margate Bridge trafficFrom Press staff reports | Posted: Saturday, July 24, 2010 | 2 comments A single-car accident and a marsh fire tied up traffic on the Margate Bridge for about 40 minutes Saturday afternoon. Police said the two incidents were unrelated but happened at about the same time. Police said no one was injured badly in the single-car accident at the Margate Bridge, where a car ran into a toll booth. At about the same time, a wildfire of unknown origin flared up on an adjacent marsh. The fire was contained as of 3 p.m., police said. |
