Fire damages auto shop in Hammonton

HAMMONTON - A fire in Hammonton damaged a tire and auto shop Thursday night.

It happened at Crescent Tire and Auto on the 300 block of South White Horse Pike around 7. An employee told an NBC 40 reporter on scene that the fire started in a truck inside the shop.

Smoke could be seen coming from the exterior of the building. The extent of the damage inside is unknown at this time.

So far, no injuries have been reported, and the cause remains under

IncidentsStation 160 was called out for a structure fire at Crescent Tire in Hammonton. Engine 16-3 was on traffic control on Rt 30 & Central Ave.

Fire destroys home in Margate

MARGATE - A fire destroyed a home on the 100 block of Jefferson Avenue Wednesday night. Firefighters worked quickly to control the blaze, and neighbors were shocked by what they saw.

"As soon as I came out, first thing I saw was just smoke pouring out up into the sky."

A fire engulfed a two story home on the 100 block of North Jefferson Avenue just before 6:30 Wednesday evening. Police and firefighters arrived on the scene a short time later.

"The flames were huge – I really couldn't believe it," said Margate resident Kelsey Dickerson.

EVFC Incident #3 01/09/2013 at 6:15pm - 3100 White Horse Pike Lot 7 for a Heater Fire

IncidentsInvestigated. Found oil burner on heater smoking. Turned off electric to heater. Checked mobile home with heat camera and ventilated. Advised home owner to have heater repaired.

EVFC Incident #2 01/07/2013 at 8:12pm - 4105 Moss Mill Rd for a Possible Gas Leak

IncidentsStation 160 was dispatched to a residence for a gas leak. Upon arrival, an electric burning smell was emanating from a unknown location within the house. House was checked with a thermal imaging camera and a gas meter but nothing was found. Upon further investigation, the smell was believed to be coming from the heater when it was running. Home owner was notified and was told to have the heater serviced. Station 160 cleared the scene no further action was taken.

Atlantic City Fire Department welcomes thirteen new hires

ATLANTIC CITY - Thirteen men were added to the ranks of the Atlantic City Fire Department thanks to a "SAFER Grant" that was awarded to the city two years ago.

"I'm just really excited. I've been waiting for this day as long as I can remember."

For Eric Koob it's been a life long dream that has finally come true for him and twelve other men.

"I was happy with my career I was at, but when I got the call I was ecstatic," said recruit, Mauro Sandoval. "I hugged my kids and I kissed my wife."

For fire recruit Tim Brining, the career choice was almost fate.

"My dad was a volunteer when I was growing up and I always thought it was the greatest thing to do, to hang out at the fire house all the time."

As of Friday the newest group of Atlantic City firefighters are able to do just that.
