Tuesday, June 09 2026 @ 05:36 pm EDT South Jersey Fire and Rescue Departments' assistance grants application period to open MondayThe application period for South Jersey Fire and Rescue Departments to apply for assistance grants will open on Monday. Congressman Frank Lobiondo held two fire grant workshops of the summer and is encouraging South Jersey's Fire and Rescue Departments to apply for the federal funding. The Department of Homeland Security's assistance to Firefighters Grants Program provides for funding to increase the effectiveness of firefighting and emergency response operations. Officials with the Atlantic City Fire Department, which may have to layoff dozens of firefighters due to a loss of safer grant funding are unable to apply for these grants because they are still waiting on word of approval of a new safer grant. Police said 19-year-old Eugene J. Sonnier III, of Lafayette, La., was pronounced dead at the scene after his 2008 Honda CBR motorcycle collided with a Toyota Tacoma. The accident occurred at Route 30 and Snow Hill Road at 2:43 p.m. when the eastbound motorcycle collided with the....Continue Reading Mullica Township Police investigate a fatal car crashFrom NBC40.net MULLICA TWP. - Mullica Township Police are investigating a fatal car crash that occurred this afternoon at the intersection of route 30 highway and snow hill road. The male driver who's identity remains unknown was pronounced dead at the scene. The two other passengers 48 year-old Donna Simpkins of Mullica Township and 14 year-old son, were flown to Atlantic Care City Division for treatment. Officials say Simpkins, who had to be removed from the car by the Elwood Fire Department, is now in critical condition while her son is in stable condition.
