The application period for South Jersey Fire and Rescue Departments to apply for assistance grants will open on Monday.

Congressman Frank Lobiondo held two fire grant workshops of the summer and is encouraging South Jersey's Fire and Rescue Departments to apply for the federal funding. The Department of Homeland Security's assistance to Firefighters Grants Program provides for funding to increase the effectiveness of firefighting and emergency response operations. Officials with the Atlantic City Fire Department, which may have to layoff dozens of firefighters due to a loss of safer grant funding are unable to apply for these grants because they are still waiting on word of approval of a new safer grant.
