Private drone banned from flying over Sand Fire

A private drone that recorded footage of the Sand Fire burning in the Sierra foothills caused some controversy after it put crews in danger. But even as firefighters criticize its use in this case, they think the technology could actually help them in the near future.

AC Fire union gets permission to apply for federal grant - but may not use it

Atlantic City officials will file for a federal grant that could save dozens of firefighters’ jobs. But it’s still unclear whether they would use it.

The Staffing for Adequate Fire and Emergency Response grant currently pays the salaries and benefits of 50 firefighters. But Mayor Don Guardian said Tuesday that the city would not apply for an extension, and instead is moving to contract out emergency services, which would halve the Fire Department’s calls.

Letter alleges Atlantic City fire chief dropped pants in incident at Public Safety Building

An investigation is continuing into a city worker’s claim that Atlantic City’s fire chief dropped his pants at the Public Safety Building last week.

Chief Dennis Brooks is on administrative leave pending the investigation, the mayor’s chief of staff previously confirmed. But the administration would not comment on the nature of the allegations.

On Tuesday, The Press of Atlantic City obtained a letter the city worker’s lawyer sent to the city solicitor detailing the alleged incident. Sebastian Ionno had his office redact the woman’s name to protect her identity.

IncidentsRear of the home a tree limb was on a power line causing them to arc. At first the home owner stated it was large and heard popping noise then down size to be small. Electric co. was notified. Fire co was put back in service.

IncidentsArrive on scene found fully involved garage fire. Fire did extend to a boat near by. Pulled an 1-3/4 line and Extinguish the fire. Mutual aid given to Sweetwater. No injury reported.
