Firefighters arrived to find fire on the second floor and creeping toward the third floor. Someone on the third floor tossed a baby into the arms of firefighters below, said firefighters.

Firefighters then used ladders to help 12 residents flee the flames. In total, 21 residents were left out of their homes, said the American Red Cross Eastern Pennsylvania, which assisted the five displaced families.

Richard E. age 49 of Sweetwater, NJ passed away suddenly at his home on Monday November 28, 2016. Born in Hammonton, NJ he was raised in Elwood and graduated from Oakcrest Regional High School in 1985. He was a truck driver and operator for Barrett Asphalt in Hammonton for over 26 years and was a member of the Teamsters. Rick was a life member and former Chief Engineer for the Elwood Volunteer Fire Company Station # 160. He was known to everyone for his love of Dirt Bike riding. Predeceased by his parents Antonio and Anne Perez ( nee Johnson ). Surviving are his Fiancé Deborah Riley, his sons Gabriel, Joseph, Michael and Aaron. His brother William E. Perez and his wife Nancy and nephew Jacob Perez. 2 Half Brothers, Raymond Perez and his wife Joy and Jay Perez. Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Saturday from 9:00am – 11:00am at the Marinella Funeral Home 102 N. 3rd St. Hammonton, NJ. Services will be held at 11:00am.
