CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE -- Court House, Rio Grande, and Stone Harbor firefighters battled a fire at 15 Fourth Avenue, Sat., Feb. 19 that resulted in three injured: one smoke inhalation, and two fallen firefighters..
This was the second major fire in Middle Township in less than 24 hours, and the third in the county, the second being earlier in the day on Court House-South Dennis Road.
A MedEvac helicopter was requested for the firefighter, but could not fly due to high wind.
Flames roared from the peaks of the dwelling, as firefighters in an aerial truck attempted to cut a hole in the roof.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A firefighter in Missouri was seriously injured Tuesday when a car crashed into a fire truck, sending it smashing into a utility pole and tree.
Kansas City Firefighter Jeff Smith, who was driving the fire truck, had to be extricated from the wreck and may lose part of his leg or foot, according to KCMO.
The crew was responding to an emergency call when a car crossed the center line, striking the fire truck and sending it off the road.
"It's pretty messed up," Sgt. Bill Mahoney, of the Kansas City Missouri Police Department's Accident Investigation Unit, told KCMO. "After the collision with the car, the fire apparatus went to the right, struck a utility pole and then a tree. So, even though it's a large vehicle, it still took quite a lot of damage."
Firefighter Smith, a 21-year KCFD veteran, was taken to the hospital in serious condition after being extricated while the car driver and her 3-year-old passenger suffered minor injuries.

EGG HARBOR TWP. -- A small fire broke out around 10:00am at an abandoned building near the intersection of Doughty Rd. and Fire Rd. and early Friday morning.
No injuries were reported and crews were able to extinguish the flames rather quickly once on scene. However, they say a preliminary investigation has led them to rule the cause as suspicious. They say it appeared someone tried to cut into a large oil tank adjacent to the house, and sparks from the saw may have started the blaze.
The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information can contact Egg Harbor Township Police at (609)927-5200.

BRIDGETON -- A South Jersey fire department is receiving more than $100 million in SAFER funding from the Department of Homeland Security.
The Bridgeton Fire Dept. is receiving the money, which was announced Wednesday by U.S. Representative Frank LoBiondo. The money will help recruit, train and retain the firefighters, and keep them safer while performing their everyday dangerous duties.
Officials at the department say they are ecstatic about the grant.
"It's going to be a tremendous boost to our staffing and to the service we can provide to the citizens of Bridgeton," said Chief David Schoch.
The SAFER program awards approximately $420 million in competitive grants to local fire departments, specifically for the recruitment and retention of volunteer and professional firefighters.
