EVFC Incident #74 06/30/2018 at 7:38pm - White Horse Pike and Elwood Rd in Elwood for a MVC with injuries

IncidentsStation 160 was dispatched to Rt30 and Elwood road for a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, crew of R16-2 helped police redirect traffic. BLS was on location treating patience. The driver of one vehicle fled the scene and police were attempting to location him. U16-4 went to Old Egg Harbor road in an attempt to find the missing driver. R16-2 stayed on location, redirecting traffic until the vehicle was removed from the Rt30. The missing driver was not found. All units cleared without incident.

IncidentsReceived call for a exterior gas leak. Nothing found advised Dispatch to notify South Jersey Gas to investigate further. All units clear without incident.

IncidentsReceived a call for an activated fire alarm. upon investigation by units on scene determined alarm was activated due to excessive heat in the attic. released by command on scene. all units cleared without incident.

EVFC Incident #71 06/20/2018 at 1:30am - 18 Holly Dr; Mullica woods in Elwood for an Activated Fire Alarm

IncidentsCalled for an Activated Fire Alarm. Asst Chief 1600A on location found that a power outage from a MVA down the street caused the alarm. No fire found. All units were clear at 1:55am.

Chief Carmen Merlino III

Carmen A. Merlino, III age 46 of Nesco passed away Saturday June 16, 2018. Carmen was born in Vineland and a resident of Nesco his entire life. He was a 1990 graduate of Oakcrest High School. Carmen was the operations manager for the family business Oakcrest Farms. He was the chief of Nesco Volunteer Fire Co. and a member for 27 years. Carmen was a member of the Atlantic County Fire Association, Atlantic County Chiefs Association and Cruisin Classics.

 

He is survived by his parents Carmen Jr. and Mary Jane (nee Spadoni), his children Carmen A. IV and Carley and their mother Jamie and his sister Renee.

 

Family and friends are invited to attend his viewing Wednesday evening 6pm to 9pm and Thursday morning 9:30am to 10:30am at St. Mary of Mt. Carmel Parish - St. Anthony Church Rt #206 Hammonton, NJ.. Mass of Christian Burial 11:00am at the Church. Entombment will follow in Greenmount Cemetery S. First Rd. Hammonton. In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Carmen’s memory for his children’s education c/o Carmen A. Merlino Jr. 3223 Nesco Rd. Hammonton, NJ 08037. It is with deep regrets, sadness, and heavy hearts the Nesco Volunteer Fire Company announces the sudden passing of Chief Carmen Merlino III. Chief Merlino III was a member of the department for 27 years, he loved serving his community. Chief Merlino III will be missed by many. Rest in Peace Chief and thank you for your service to our department and community. Arrangements are still being made and will be shared as soon as they are available. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Carmens family during this difficult time.

The Elwood Vol Fire Company would like to express our deepest sympathy to The Nesco Vol Fire Company, the Merlino family and all of Mullica Twp. He will be missed.
