VINELAND - Work is underway on a new facility that will handle the equipment and volunteer firefighters who have shared cramped quarters with members of the city's full-time firefighting staff for the past several years.

MAYS LANDING - Weymouth and Folsom fire departments responded to a fire in Mays Landing Thursday night.

It happened around 7:30 p.m. on the 19 hundred block of Drake Avenue.

Fire officials on scene say the fire started in the chimney and was easily contained.

There were no reported injuries.

Fire officials say the family should be back in the house by tonight.

(Video) FIREFIGHTERS BATTLE VINELAND BLAZE

VINELAND -- Firefighters battled a one-alarm structure fire in Vineland on Thursday.

The blaze broke out on the 2400 block of West Almond Road at around 11:30 a.m.

Thick, black smoke and flames were visible from the second floor of the two-story home. A tanker was called in to help fight the fire.

Fire officials say one person was home at the time, but that individual made it out safely.

No injuries were reported. It's not clear at this time how many people live at the house or what sparked the fire.

Fellow EMT needs our help!!!

Hey guys!!!

As some of us may or may not know, Steve Helewa , a fellow EMT from Galloway Twp lost his home to a structure fire last night(Thur. Dec. 29). Steve says he still has his family so everything will work out, however, unfortunately nothing in the house could be saved!!! I am currently working with members from Galloway to collect items for Steve, his fiancé, and their 16th month old daughter. If you have anything that you could donate please text, email, or call me at 609-335-6013, as soon as possible and I can arrange a pick up!

The following items are being requested:
Men's: Pants Size 38, Shirts XL
Female: Pants Size 9, Large Shirts
Girls: 18-24 Months clothes, Diapers Size 3, various other baby items, Lactaid or Lactose Free Formula.
Please feel free to repost this to other departments and squads!!! Steve spends countless hours giving to the community, lets come together and help a friend, a member of our extended family, a wonderful man and his family in such a time of need!!!
