Firefighters battle large house fire in Petersburg

Fire-Rescue News

Upper Twp. - A late night fire tore through a two-story home in Cape May County.

Initial calls for the blaze on the 500 block of Route 50 in Petersburg came in around 10:30 p.m. Thursday.

Crews from Dennis Township, Marmora, Tuckahoe, Belleplain, Seaview, Ocean City and Oceanville all responded to the fire.

An NBC 40 reporter on the scene confirmed that heavy smoke and flames was seen coming from several windows on the second floor.

It took several hours for firefighters to extinguish the blaze.

The incident also forced authorities to shut down parts of Route 610 near Route 50.

It's believed that the home owners did not suffer any injuries, although that information has not yet been confirmed by fire officials.

Authorities also have not said what may have caused the fire, which remains under investigation.
