In battling a 12-alarm blaze at a Delanco warehouse in September, firefighters were hampered by rooftop solar panels.

Christie allows fire sprinkler bill to die

Fire-Rescue News

TRENTON - Fire sprinklers will not be required in new homes in New Jersey.

Gov. Chris Christie on Tuesday allowed a bill that made the rule to die.

The measure would have applied to newly constructed homes. It would not have applied to mobile homes or homes not connected to a public water system.

Supporters said it would save lives.

Opponents said the requirement would drive up costs and make it more difficult for residents to build homes.

He was a volunteer fireman in his hometown for....Continue Reading

Mays Landing fire 12-28-13

Posted: Saturday, December 28, 2013 4:43 pm

Hamilton Township Police said they are investigating what caused a Mays Landing house to catch fire Saturday morning.

Heavy fire and smoke were visible when police and the Mays Landing Fire Department arrived at a home in the 6310 block of Liberty Avenue, in a neighborhood about a mile west of Mays Landing proper, police said.

The fire was contained within 40 minutes, police said.

The homeowner and two dogs escaped uninjured from house, police said. Property records indicate William W. and Leslie A. Smith own the house.

Assisting at the scene were the fire companies of Laureldale and Mizpah, Hamilton Township Rescue Squad and the American Red Cross.
