Pa. Man Hurt in Expressway Crash in Hammonton

HAMMONTON - A Pennsylvania man was taken to the hospital after his minivan crashed into a tree this morning along the Atlantic City Expressway, police said.

According to State Police, Ricky Wilson, 44, of Breinigsville, was traveling at an unsafe speed when his vehicle hit a puddle and was sent off the roadway into a tree on the right shoulder near milepost 28.7 eastbound.

Wilson was taken to the Regional Trauma Unit at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City with what police said were nonlife-threatening injuries.

Report Recommends Hamilton Merge Five Fire Companies

  HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - Local officials are reviewing a study that recommends merging all five of the township's volunteer fire companies into one department to better streamline operations.

Student Charged After False Alarm

PLEASANTVILLE - A student who pulled a fire alarm Wednesday afternoon at Pleasantville High School faces charges after being identified on security camera, school officials said.

The alarm was pulled about 4:30 p.m., said Bill Addis, head of security for the district. Officials then reviewed camera footage, and the student they identified was turned over to Pleasantville police. The unnamed student's charges include destruction of property and false public alarm, Addis said. It was the first fire alarm pulled this year, ever since the school upgraded and expanded its surveillance system, according to Addis.

2:42 p.m. Update  - Coast Guard officials say the Lady Mary may have issued a mayday call before sinking.

The fishing vessel Kathryn Marie contacted the Coast Guard at 4 p.m. Tuesday and indicated they heard a mayday call at about 5 a. m. The fishing vessel Kathryn Marie reported no name or vessel position was heard on that mayday call......Continue Reading

Structure Fire in Mays Landing

Mays Landing's Station 18-1 responded to an activated fire alarm at 5303 Harding Hwy the Sandpiper Condos at 11:52pm on March 23rd 2009. Patrol on location found smoke showing.  Cologne's Station 18-5 was dispatched as well at 11:56pm. Patrol then advised of a working fire in apartment 408. A FAST team was called from Laureldale's Station 18-3 at 12:00am.
