Atlantic City - A suspicious fire caused further damage to a boarded-up home on North Pennsylvania Avenue on Tuesday evening, but there were no injuries, a fire official said.
The call about a fire on the 100 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue came in at 6:53 p.m., and firefighters arrived a minute or two later to see heavy flames coming from the first floor of the four-story Victorian building, said Battalion Chief Michael Mooney.
Firefighters attacked the flames with heavy hoses, and put out the fire in five or 10 minutes, Mooney said.
"A building like this is a major concern, because it's wide open," and oxygen can fuel the flames and spread them quickly, Mooney said.
The fire started on the first floor on the left side of the unoccupied building, Mooney said. The siding is made of asphalt shingles, which are petroleum-based and burn quickly.
The building has already been the site of several multi-alarm fires, Mooney said.
The cause is being treated as suspicious and the arson unit was investigating, Mooney said.
The 100 block of North Pennsylvania Avenue and a few blocks of Baltic Avenue were closed while firefighters put out the flames.

DETROIT -- A run by a Detroit fire crew on the city's southwest side took a turn for the worse Tuesday evening.
As a Ladder 13 fire truck, with the sirens blaring, turned from Lawndale Road onto West Vernor Street, and crashed into two vehicles, a surveillance camera from a nearby party store rolled.
Investigators said the surveillance camera from Dollar Max Plus shows the driver of the rig takes the right turn at a high speed and misses his lane. He then plows into a vehicle waiting at the light on Vernor Street and then slams into a Pontiac G6, sending it flying nearly 50 feet, before coming to a stop.
"He is a crazy driver. He wants to hurry, and he got beside him (the driver of the Pontiac G6) and he put it off on the street," said Dollar Max Plus owner Bawsam Safedi.
The two people inside the Pontiac G6 were taken to a nearby hospital with minor injuries. The driver of the vehicle that was hit first was not injured. Also, none of the three firefighters inside the rig were injured.
Local 4 has learned that the firefighter behind the wheel has been with the department for more than 10 years and has traveled the same route many times.
The Detroit Fire Department will only say it is investigating the crash. Local 4 has learned the driver of the rig underwent drug and alcohol testing Tuesday evening.
Investigators said it's common procedure to undergo those types of tests during crash investigations.

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP - A township police officer and a Galloway man were injured early Sunday morning in a two-car accident.
The emergency call came in at around 7:52 a.m. about an accident at the intersection of Mill Road and Fernwood Avenue. Officer Christopher Leary, 37, was driving a police car east on Mill Road when he hit another car that ran a stop sign on Fernwood Avenue, Sgt. Robert Gray said. The other driver, Luke Akerlind, 29, was trapped inside his car and he had to be extricated by the Bargaintown, Cardiff and Scullville fire departments using the jaws of life.
Akerlind suffered head, back and leg injuries, Gray said. He was treated at the scene by the township ambulance squad and AtlantiCare paramedics, then flown to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. Leary had rib and wrist injuries and he was driven by AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center by the ambulance squad. Both men were admitted to the hospital.
Traffic was delayed for two hours on Sunday while the collision was being cleared. The case is being handled by officers Kevin Devlin and Al Maiorano and a summons may be issued pending the investigation completion.
