Fire Rescue News - Ventnor, Margate again consider merging fire departments, closing a fire station

Officials in Ventnor and Margate are again considering consolidating their separate fire departments into one fire company.

Fire and elected officials from the two cities are scheduled to meet Thursday at noon at Margate's City Hall to begin preliminary discussions about joining the two departments together.

About 400 Atlantic County residents remain without power Monday, and some might not get it back until as late as Tuesday, a spokesman for Atlantic City Electric said today.

Fire Rescue News - Firefighter hospitalized after collapsing while fighting a house fire in Longport

LONGPORT — A firefighter who had responded to a house fire at Atlantic Avenue and 28th Street collapsed about 15 minutes into fighting the fire Saturday.

Fire Chief Levon S. "Lefty" Clayton said Capt. Richard Hirsch, 57, was taken to Shore Memorial Hospital. Clayton said he has been a member of the borough's volunteer squad for 39 years.....Continue Reading

Fire/Rescue News - ATLANTIC CITY, BUILDINGS TUMBLE BUT REVEL CRANE REMAINS

ATLANTIC CITY-- The high winds plagued Atlantic City created one very large problem. It was a problem that loomed over 700 feet above, on the side of the future Revel Casino. Earlier part of the cranes jib collapsed on the building, and officials feared that the entire crane would fall.

“We know there has been damage to the straps that hold the crane to the side of the building. We know that there's an issue with the counterweights, they are technically unbalanced because the jib has collapsed onto the building,” said Atlantic City Police Chief John J. Mooney....Continue Reading

Fire Rescue News - Accident and overturned vehicle on the Atlantic City Expressway

Atlantic City Expressway, accident involving an overturned vehicle, east of Exit 28 (Hamilton Township). Police say the accident happened after 6 a.m., and that no one was seriously injured. Police are still investigating and clearing the scene.

Fire Rescue News - Late-night fire damages Hamilton Township townhouse

Police are investigating a late-night fire that damaged a Hamilton Township townhouse building.

The fire broke out after 10:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brandywood Townhomes, located in the 6100 block of Hoover Drive near Harding Highway, Route 40.

The fire damaged a series of connected townhomes, and forced the residents of unit 6114 to find somewhere else to stay.

No one was injured. Mays Landing Fire Department, Mizpah Fire Department, and Laureldale Fire Department extinguished the fire.
