"Basically we came outside and there's fire coming out the.....Continue Reading
back door on the roof. The fire men were putting on the hoses and everything - it was kind of out of control and stuff," said Zane Gudelunas, an eyewitness.
The cause of the two-alarm fire is currently unknown. And although the flames may not have been visible from the street, the evidence of the fire could have been seen from a distance.
"I was over at Wonder Bar a couple of blocks over and heard the fire trucks and saw a bunch of smoke... and it actually blew towards the water near the restaurant and was there for I say a half an hour, 45 minutes," said Matt Camp.
Due to windy conditions, the task of taking down the blaze became a little more difficult for fire fighters.
"We had heavy smoke showing. You know we were very concerned with the wind. You know we got 30 miles per hour winds that really fanned the fire. Once it had broken out on the third floor it had really accelerated," said Dennis Brooks, Atlantic City Fire Chief.
Once the fire got into the wall it managed to spread at a rapid pace all the way up to the fourth floor.
Most of the extensive damage as you can see occurred on the third story of the home...but it was enough damage to leave about 15 people displaced.
There is still no exact number of how many people resides in this four story dwelling. Although according to fire officials there could be as many as 15-20 people living here, all of which mad it out safely.
"There are no injuries to any of the occupants they all got out prior to the fire department arrival," said Chief Brooks.
While no lives were lost, the incident is still considered a tragedy for those who may have lost so much in it.
"Oh I feel real bad for them," said Gudelunas.
"I don't know what you really can say, something like that you can't really prepare for. If you ever seen it before you see how quickly it can get out of control," said Camp.
