The fire was reported before 5:30 a.m., at 101 North Oxford Ave. in Ventnor Heights. The house overlooks the bay and can be seen from the Dorset Avenue Bridge.
On Oct. 16, during the region's last serious storm, the firefighters were about a block away, putting out another fire in a home surrounded by water.
"Unfortunately, we can't pick the times when it's perfect weather and a nice day for a fire to start," said Deputy Chief John Hazlett. "It seems like Murphy's Law sometimes. When you're dealing with other problems and getting slammed by a working fire, it makes things all the more difficult. But that's what we're here for."
The residents from Friday's fire were not injured and are currently being helped by the Red Cross. A firefighter was injured, receiving a hand laceration. He was taken to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, Atlantic City Campus, with non-life threatening injuries.
It took firefighters half an hour to put out the fire, and fire officials are still trying to figure out how it started.
