Firefighters arrived at the Club II at Mattix Forge to find a third-floor rear apartment fully engulfed in fire, with flames bursting through the roof. The 12-unit, wood-frame building was evacuated by fire and police personnel.

Blazo said the third-floor unit eventually collapsed onto the floor below it before the fire was extinguished. The fire was under control about an hour after firefighters were called to the scene.

Galloway police Lt. Allan Kane said three units were completely destroyed by the blaze. In all, 12 units were affected by the fire, three of which were unoccupied at the time.

Kane said no one was injured in the fire and the American Red Cross and Salvation Army were on scene to assist the displaced tenants.

Blazo said the fire appeared to be accidental. Kane said authorities did not believe there was any evidence of arson.

Volunteer fire companies from Bayview, Oceanville, Pomona and Germania responded, along with Galloway First Aid and Atlantic County Emergency Management.

Anyone interested in donating clothes, food or other goods to the victims of the fire should call the condominium association at 609-652-6077 during its office hours Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
