11:23 a.m. Update - Kessler Memorial Hospital closed Thursday morning as an acute care hospital - just days after it appeared to have a buyer.
The hospital’s board of directors terminated the agreement signed Friday for cardiovascular surgeon B. Reddy Dandolu to buy the hospital, Interim Chief Restructuring Officer Michael Sandnes said in a statement released by the hospital.....Continue Reading

MULLICA TOWNSHIP - Three of the five vehicles sold in the township's first online auction sold for less than $1,520, but township officials still called the event an "overwhelming success."
The auction, held on www.govdeals.com during the past few weeks, put a 2003 Buick Century, 2001 Ford Crown Victoria, 1993 Ford backhoe, 1992 Ford F150 and 1988 Chevy pickup out for bid.....Continue Reading

MULLICA TOWNSHIP - The Township Committee has not had a change of heart and no lawsuits were needed, but taxpayers will not have to pay for Deputy Mayor William Kennedy's legal bills.

Dear Consumer Action:
In June, I put down a deposit of $1,280 for my daughter's wedding at Sweetwater Casino in Mullica Township. As most everyone is aware, soon after, the place burned down. I was assured by the banquet manager that I would receive a full refund of my deposit, but it's been several months and I have received nothing. Certified letters have been returned marked "refused."
Is there any way you can help get my deposit back? - K.J., Egg Harbor Township
It appears you are stuck in the middle of a legal dispute between the owners of Sweetwater Casino and their insurance company.
"No insurance money has been paid," co-owner Jeff Anastasi said Tuesday evening, and "we are in the middle of suing (the insurance company)."
He would not comment further.

The 81-year-old restaurant, a landmark in the region, was destroyed by a fire in the early morning hours of June 30. The cause has not been determined, but the fire happened right after residents of the Sweetwater section heard an enormous thunder and lightning event, and the State Police lab said in August that no chemical fire accelerants were found in the debris.
Let's hope the insurance issue is settled soon and that creditors are paid.
This story was taken from the news source stated above. It is not necessarily the opinion of The Elwood Vol Fire Company or it's members.

MULLICA TOWNSHIP - Members of the local Democratic Club are calling for Deputy Mayor William Kennedy to resign from his position on the Atlantic County Democratic Committee.
A formal request was handed to Kennedy in an envelope marked "confidential and personal" prior to a recent Mullica Township Committee meeting, Kennedy said.
In the envelope was a letter dated Jan. 17 and signed by 16 people that requested Kennedy's resignation from his position on the county committee due to his "desire to not affiliate with the local Democratic Club and local Democratic elected officials." ....Continue reading
