Description: The theme for this year's event will be "A Traditional Christmas." Organizers hope the theme is broad enough to appeal to a large number of fire companies, organizations and groups. "We want folks to be able to decorate a float or fire truck and attend all the parades in the region," said parade chairman John E. Lyons. "With a theme, people are often locked into the Hammonton parade only. We'd love to see people attend the parades inEgg Harbor City, Vineland and Blackwood, as well the Hammonton Christmas parade." All individuals, service groups and places of worship can enter floats into the parade, Lyons said. Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place entrants in the fire department/emergency medical services category. All other entrants will vie for another set of three cash prizes. In addition, an award will be presented for the best decorated home along the parade route. "The competition is usually pretty fierce, so we're looking forward to some great displays," Lyons said. Parade registration will start at 5:45 p.m. at Hammonton Middle School. Entrants will line up along North Liberty Street. The parade will turn right onto Bellevue Avenue, continue through downtown and turn left onto Front Street. The parade will continue down Front Street until it ends at the Hammonton Volunteer Fire Department Station No. 1. A free block party will be held at the fire house, and parade participants and spectators are invited to attend. Santa Claus will pose for free photos in the fire department's Christmas Wonderland, provided by Ron's Gardens of Hammonton. Guests also can enjoy hot chocolate and sweets. Door prizes will be awarded. The Hammonton High School music department will perform songs of the holiday season. The movie "A Charlie Brown Christmas" will be shown on an indoor big screen, and popcorn will be served. Adams, Rehmann and Heggan and The Hammonton News sponsor the parade and block party.
