GALLOWAY TWP. -- Officials are investigating a gas explosion on the 1300 block of North Street in the South Egg Harbor section of Galloway Twp.

Fire officials on scene say that there was a gas leak and the explosion may have occurred when a water heater turned on. The blast was powerful enough to lift the house off of its foundation. Four occupants inside the home escaped uninjured.

Neighboring homes have been evacuated.

The investigation will continue to find the exact cause of the blast, but officials believe that the house will have to be demolished.
