top floor of a duplex at 3 Crestmont Drive. The first-floor unit did not sustain fire damage, but sustained extensive smoke and water damage, Somers Point Fire Chief Frank Denan said.Denan said one resident of the top-floor unit was home when the fire started in a bedroom. However, no one was injured in the two-alarm blaze.
"Within 20 minutes the fire was under control," Denan said.
Firefighters from Northfield and Somers Point doused the building with water and broke multiple windows to help extinguish the fire.
The cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday night.
Denan said the duplex was a rental property, and an undetermined amount of residents would need relocating as the structure was uninhabitable.
