Atlantic City International Airport received a $6.7 million federal grant that will help fund construction of a 43,000-square-foot, aircraft rescue and firefighting building, U.S. Rep. Frank LoBiondo, R-2nd, announced Wednesday.

In May, the SJTA approved a contract with Sambe Construction Co. of Pennsauken, Camden County, to build the Aircraft Rescue & Fire Fighting Station. Officials said federal grants will fund most of the project.
The rescue and fire building primarily serves the commercial airport.
It also offers support services when needed to the nearby William J. Hughes Technical Center and the 177th Air National Guard Fighter Wing.
The new structure will be built on airport grounds near Tilton Road. Officials have said work on the facility could start in July.
