An electrical fire Thursday afternoon displaced a family in Folsom and killed two pet cats, the fire chief said.

 smoke, Folsom Fire Company Chief Larry Smith said. He rescued his son, who was sleeping inside, but two cats died in the fire. The third family cat was not found.

“It was extreme heat throughout the house,” and firefighters were cautious in case of additional flare-ups, Smith said.

The Collings Lake and Buena Vista Township fire companies also responded, along with the Hammonton Rescue Squad, Smith said. Cecil and Hammonton firefighters staffed the stations.

The firefighters did a good job supressing the flames, Smith said, but two rooms were completely destroyed and the rest of the house suffered smoke damage. The house is inhabitable, and the family made its own alternate living arrangements, he said.

The fire appears to have been caused by overloaded electrical circuits that overheated, Smith said.
