Improper disposal of charcoal started a fire on South Chester Avenue in Pleasantville Thursday afternoon, causing damage to a nearby home and shed, fire officials said.

Firefighters were called to the 200 block of South Chester Avenue at 4:05 p.m. , and the crew under Battalion Chief John Quigley arrived to find construction debris on fire, officials said. The fire had spread to a nearby shed and home, causing about $5,000 worth of damage to both structures.

The fire was under control within 10 minutes, officials said. Investigation revealed improper disposal of charcoal started the blaze.
