An early morning fire destroyed a house Tuesday on Route 47 in the Green Creek section of Middle Township.

300 block of Route 47 South, township police said. The house was being used as a business office.
No one was inside at the time of the fire, which was reported about 4 a.m. Green Creek fire Chief David Zeiss said flames were coming out of the second-story windows when firefighters responded.
Zeiss said the fire occurred in an area with no hydrants, so water had to be ferried to the scene by tanker trucks.
The Cape May County fire marshall and Middle Township Major Crimes Unit are investigating the cause of the fire, police said
