GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP - A police officer pursuing an aggressive driver lost control of his motorcycle Sunday evening and was hospitalized.

Cpl. Edward Fryling is being kept overnight at AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center in Atlantic City. His injuries are not life-threatening, Chief Patrick Moran said.

Fryling was headed south on Cologne Avenue near Aloe Street at about 5:50 p.m. when he saw a speeding car coming the opposite way, Moran said.

The driver of the small, white car with a black hood was flashing its headlights to maneuver through traffic, and Fryling turned around, intending to stop the driver.

When Fryling crossed the railroad tracks, he lost control and the motorcycle crashed, Moran said.

Fryling was taken to the hospital as township emergency workers shut down Cologne Avenue. The closing lasted about an hour as investigators worked.

Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call Traffic Officer Greg Bollinger at 609-652-3705, ext. 058.
