HAMILTON TOWNSHIP - A two-vehicle collision resulted in minor injuries Friday evening but closed Route 559 for about two hours after a pickup truck burst into flames, police said.
Hugh McMenamin, 57, of Ventnor, was driving north on Ocean Heights Avenue when he crossed the center line and collided with a pickup truck driven by Jeffrey Ross, 44, of Egg Harbor Township, police said. The drivers, who were both wearing seat belts, got out of their vehicles, and the pickup then became engulfed in flames.
Ross was taken by Hamilton Township Rescue Squad to AtlantiCare Regional Medical Center, City Campus, for evaluation of his injuries, police said. McMenamin refused treatment at the scene.
Traffic was detoured for about two hours while the scene was cleared, police said.
The Mays Landing Volunteer Fire Company and the Atlantic County Public Works Department also responded to the scene.
McMenamin was given a summons for careless driving, police said.
