GALLOWAY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - A fast-moving forest fire burned more than 200 acres in southern New Jersey on Saturday, but there were no reports of injuries or homes being damaged.

Authorities said the fire, which broke out in the Pinelands National Reserve along the border between Galloway Township and Egg Harbor City, was reported at about 2:15 p.m. and briefly caused some evacuations in the Atlantic County communities.

Several state and area fire departments responded to the scene, and about half of the blaze had been contained by 6:30 p.m. Authorities said moderate winds and wetness in the area helped keep the fire from burning out of control.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Saturday night.
