MULLICA TWP.- Family and friends of 64-year-old Joseph Herbert gathered in Mullica Twp. on Sunday, as they teamed up with the local police and fire department in an effort to find the missing man who has Alzheimer's disease.

"It is kind of tough dealing with this....but we need to give
it a go and bring him back" says Kenneth Davis, relative of Joseph Herbert & search coordinator.

Many came out to show support and help search throughout the woods of the town. Herbert was last seen on November 30th.

"We have a missing relative and his name is Joseph Herbert who has Alzheimer's and he has been missing for over a week. There are many friends and family here searching in 5 different areas" says Davis.

"We are doing a community search and the family has asked the community to get involved. We have a lot of area to cover because this man walked every day in every direction" says Anthony Tomasco, Chief, Elwood Volunteer Fire Dept.

"He was a avid walker and always came home within a few hours but this time he went out and we haven't seen him" says Davis.

People headed out on foot and by ATV's, attempting to search a "wide range" area, since Herbert could be just about anywhere.

"The woods are such a huge area and we are trying to cover the whole area. Some of us went our separate ways just to make sure we cover every square foot" says Allison Weldon, Friend of the Herbert family.

Family and friends are trying to stay positive and are asking anyone with any information to please contact the Mullica Twp. Police Department.

"The closure of not knowing will drive anyone crazy" says Weldon.

"Some relatives say he has walked to Philadelphia before. If you see someone call it in. It could be nothing but at the same time it could be something" says Tomasco.

Family say that they may conduct another search sometime this week. Anyone with any information on where Joseph Herbert may be is asked to contact the Mullica Twp. Police Department immediately at 609-561-7600.

SEARCH FOR MISSING MAN IN MULLICA TWP. CONTINUES ON SUNDAY

NBC40 Video

MULLICA TWP.- A week after family and friends started the organized search of the missing Joe Herbert, they were back at it again on Sunday, this time led by officials and multiple fire departments.

Many were hoping to come up with a lead to where the 64 year old with Alzheimer's has gone.

"If this is what I have to do for the rest of my life then I will. I will find my dad one way or the other" says Beverly Herbert, daughter of the missing Joe Herbert.

"I have limited the search to all professional searchers after last week. The reason why is we need to track everybody and make sure everyone comes out of the woods. I can't have civilians and children out here" says Anthony Tomasco, Chief, Elwood Volunteer Fire Department.

Over 100 officials including the Mullica Twp. Police, Elwood Fire Company, Atlantic County Emergency Management team and New Jersey state fire rescue, teamed up with a base at the Elwood Fire Company, as many split into groups and headed into the woods throughout the town. But still officials say they are having trouble coming up with any definite answer as to where Herbert is.

"We have some leads but nothing is for sure right now" says Tomasco.

At this point, officials say that family and friends are still optimistic, but are just looking for a sense of closure, hoping to come up with any answers.

"That is why we are here. The family came to me Monday night and said they needed closure" says Tomasco.

Officials say if nothing was found throughout Sundays search, they will turn to plan B and coordinate another search beginning Monday morning.

"There will be another search tomorrow. If we don't find my dad we will be out here again tomorrow. And if we don't find him tomorrow then we will keep on going out every day" says Beverly Herbert.

"Tomorrow we are going to come out with about fifty K9 officers to follow up" says Sgt. Brian Zeck, Mullica Twp. Police.

MULLICA TWP. -- The search continued Monday for a missing Mullica Township man who suffers from Alzheimer's Disease. This time, authorities brought K-9 units from across the state to investigate.

Thirty-five handlers and their K-9 partners explored a massive area in search of 64-year-old Joseph Herbert, who has been missing since November 30th. The search follows another large one on Sunday, when authorities say 3,500 acres were covered.

Herbert's family is overwhelmed by the support of the community and effort put forth by authorities.

"This is the hardest thing my family has ever faced. To have the support that we have, words just can't express," said Beverly Herbert, Joseph's daughter.

Joseph is known to take daily walks, sometimes for miles. Authorities say he could be in a shelter or a hospital in the state.

If you have any information, contact Mullica Township Police at (609) 561-7600.
